2020.11.21 20:43 TopStrawberry8873 A day at the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2950 (with a hot date from Everus Harbor)

A day at the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2950 (with a hot date from Everus Harbor)
I decided to leave my bounty hunting stomping grounds at PO and head on over to microTech for the expo. My Sabre's quantum drive only took me as far as Hurston (I don't like travelling, so I didn't install an Atlas) where I found a sleeping beauty near the burrito bar. Feeling a bit lonely (I don't have any friends) I decided to claim the Nomad that was so kindly loaned to me by Saint Roberts. I dragged my date through the station, into the elevator, across the pad and laid her down in the back of the space pickup. What with her condition I didn't think she'd mind.

Sleep softly my love.

So off we went to microTech for the expo.

I'll be watching you

Look, honey. Snow!

Don't worry about it. You look beautiful.

Just act natural.

Getting her down the stairs wasn't easy.

Getting her onto the train was worse. The doors slammed shut on her head. I rode all the way to the commons alone and in a state of panic, I then returned to my baby and this time got her safely on the train.

We finally arrived at the expo. There were some stares from other players but we didn't mind. Me and my baby were happy as peas in a pod.

Here we are posing at reception.

Here we are after buying some merch. I got us matching Aegis T-shirts.

Here we are at my favorite ship.

She decided to take a nap under a bench. I put a pico next to her for when she wakes up.
Then the server crashed and I never saw my baby again...

Intel Funded Study : OSA Continuum (Optical Society of America)- Breaking the field-of-view limit in augmented reality with a scanning waveguide display ) - Sony MP-CL1 Pico Projector display (Microvision) - 80 degree FOV
In this post, there are two studies on AVR display. The bottom one explains with detail if anyone interested in understanding the different displays. It's very long but worth it.
It's LBS for now for AR glass per my understanding after reading most of this articles. There is no second thought. Good luck everyone. This really boosted my confidence yet again.

4.3. Display system : The imaging source of the scanning waveguide system is a LBS pico-projector (Sony MP-CL1) with resolution of 1920 by 720. The wavelength of the red color is 639 nm. In experiment, another notch filter (Thorlabs FL635-10) was placed at the projector output to filter out the green and blue lights. The thickness of the glass waveguide is 1 mm. The chiral lens array has a size of 8 by 15, lens pitch of 2 mm and focal length of 1.5 mm at the recorded wavelength (457 nm) and 1.15 mm for display wavelength (639 nm). The collimation lens has a focal length of 20 mm. The propagating angle of the laser rays in waveguide was adjusted to be 45° to match the waveguide thickness and lens pitch. The camera for taking the picture is Sony Alpha a7II with camera lens Sony SEL16F28.

Another article on AR FOV study : This work was supported by Intel Corporation and GoerTek Electronics.
This one is very nice study as well. This elaborates the issues revolving around OLED & LED and emphasize that LBS most probably has the best solution.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7404571/
In comparison with projection, emissive displays are less mature but have potential to reduce the form factor. They exhibit intrinsically high dynamic range because of the true black state. Micro organic light-emitting diode (μOLED) is a promising candidate for emissive microdisplays. The typical architecture is patterned color filters on top of white OLEDs. To date, full-color μOLED displays with 3,000 to 5,000 nits in luminance and ~3,000 ppi (pixel per inch) in resolution have been achieved (Haas, 2018; Motoyama et al., 2019). However, for AR displays with a large eye-box, such brightness is still inadequate (Lee et al., 2019b). Future development should pay attention to boosting their brightness, device lifetime, and current efficiency. On the other hand, micro light-emitting diode (μLED) is emerging and has the potential to become the next-generation display technology. The most recent development of 10-μm pitch (~1,300 ppi) full-color LED microdisplay has achieved 105 to 106 nits in luminance (Quesnel et al., 2020). Despite this impressive progress, μLED still faces two major challenges. The first is to enhance the non-radiative recombination when the area ratio of the side wall increases (Gou et al., 2019). This means, for small μLED chips down to <5 μm, the external quantum efficiency would drop dramatically. The second issue is how to realize full color and high resolution simultaneously, as mass transfer and assembly for such tiny RGB LEDs is challenging (Lin and Jiang, 2020; Wong et al., 2020). A parallel approach is to use blue μLED to pump green and red quantum dots as color conversion (Huang et al., 2020). However, obtaining a uniform, long lifetime color conversion layer without color cross talk for such small pixel sizes is by no means easy. Therefore, further effort is needed to develop mass transfer technique or color conversion layer patterning technique for ultra-small pixel pitch (<5 μm) μLEDs.
As for scanning display systems, they are normally with high efficiency, small form factor, high dynamic range, and high brightness using laser illumination. Typically, a 2D micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) mirror or two 1D MEMS mirrors are applied to scan the laser beam in orthogonal directions to form 2D images. Different from the panel-based displays, scanning displays do not have an object plane. This unique property indicates that whereas panel-based displays form object images on the panel, the scanning displays can directly form images on the retina. One prominent example is the LBS system in North Focals (Alexander et al., 2018). As most scanning display engines have intrinsically small exit pupil, they need a proper exit pupil expansion/steering, and thus the optical design will be more sophisticated. When compared with reflective and emissive displays, the image uniformity of the scanning method is another inevitable issue that requires improvement.
The freeform half mirrors, freeform prisms, and birdbath combiners usually manifest decent imaging quality and high optical efficiency, but mainly suffer from a large form factor. To reduce the form factor, cascaded mirrors embedded in a lightguide has been invented. However, for lightguide combiners, additional attention should be paid on see-through transmittance, see-through uniformity, stray light control, and image brightness uniformity. As a result, the image quality and optical efficiency are usually compromised. The diffractive combiners are also introduced to reduce the form factor of traditional reflective combiners. Different from the reflective counterpart, the chromatic nature of diffractive elements needs to be considered in optical design. Off-axis HOEs combined with an LBS system can provide a true glasses-like form factor yet a limited eye-box. To further enlarge the eye-box, grating-coupled lightguide combiners are employed where the output coupler design is more complicated as it can also perform as the exit pupil expander.
Currently, two types of gratings are employed in lightguide AR: holographic volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) and surface relief gratings (SRGs). Due to the different refractive index contrast, they exhibit different spectral and angular responses. The traditional VBGs with a small refractive index contrast (δn ≤ 0.05) manifest narrow spectral (~10 nm) and angular (~5° in air) bandwidths, whereas SRGs with a large δn (≥0.5) show much broader spectral and angular bands (Lee et al., 2019b). Interestingly, DigiLens has developed a large δn VBG (close to LC birefringence) based on holographic polymer-dispersed LC, which is switchable and performs much better than traditional VBGs (Brown et al., 2018). Beside these two gratings, polarization volume gratings (PVGs) based on chiral LCs are also emerging (Yin et al., 2019). The refractive index contrast is essentially the birefringence of the LC material and thus can be tuned within a broad range (from <0.1 to >0.4). As those grating couplers are usually optimized for a particular polarization (e.g., a linear polarization for VBGs and SRGs and a circular polarization for PVGs), a PCS modulating the polarization of light from the display engine and polarization management within the lightguide will be significant for improving the system efficiency. Another unavoidable aspect of improving light efficiency is the 2D exit pupil expander design. Typically, a turn-around gradient-efficiency grating (also termed as fold grating) is performed to first expand the eye-box in one direction within the lightguide. Then the output grating extends the eye-box in another direction. Specifically, due to the inherent chromatic dispersion in diffraction, color uniformity control is as challenging as brightness uniformity in most of the waveguide designs using diffractive combiners. However, because there is a trade-off between optical efficiency of the gratings (both the turn-around grating and the output grating) and colobrightness uniformity within the expanded eye-box, finding an appropriate balance between them is essential from the system perspective.

Conclusion

We overviewed the major challenges and discussed potential opportunities of display optics in the fast-developing field of AR and VR systems. The requirements from the human visual system are analyzed in detail to offer quantitative standards for future near-eye display devices. These requirements also bring out the major issues that need to be emphasized and addressed in current devices, regarding panel resolution, form factor, imaging performance, VAC, FOV, and brightness. By learning from recent advances in optics and developing trends of AR and VR devices, we shared a few thoughts about how to meet these challenges in the near future and the long run.

2020.10.28 19:52 wootybooty Needing an ARM PC (Non-Intel/AMD x86) with PCIe Port for Coding/Development

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I will be using this as a programming workstation used for porting and compiling software and drivers to/for the arm64 platform, testing PCI devices as well for general desktop use.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$800
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Within the next 2-3 months.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
AT-Style Mainboard/SoC (Must include a single PCIe Gen2 x4 port at bare minimum, more lanes and/or ports the better)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Central US, however items may only be available online or speciality retailers.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Depending on whether its a SoC (System on a Chip) or mainboard style (upgradeable) I can provide all other components needed; only requirement is the processomainboard combo with an unpopulated PCIe slot.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
This highly depends on the board and OEM.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I have several generations of old and new AMD and nVidia cards, as well as 1st and 3rd party RAID controllers, nVME adaptors, USB2/3 adaptors, NIC's, etc., that will be used for testing opensource ARM drivers. Tests will also include CUDA usage and performance benchmarks of said drives against older and modern x86, possibly including ppc64 benchmark comparisons.
In a nutshell, PCIe connectivity is absolute and extra bandwidth will help with more accurate testing.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Aesthetics are aesthetics, however I will be using a mid-2000's SFF WelchAllyn Unix tower for ITX and microATX boards. If this approaches picoITX size I will be fabricating a custom case out of ACER desktop side panels.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Windows... Firstly installation of Windows on ARM is a secondary thought and highly depends on CPU,and would require more research on my part for testing anything mentioned above. Secondly, I will provide the OS and any licenses needed.
Extra info or particulars:
This post is probably different from the norm, but I am entirely serious in looking for an ARM based desktop platform for development and educational purposes. Over the years I have played with several different SBC's (Le Potato, BPi Zero, XU4, Beaglebones, Pi's, etc.) along with a Chromebook C201P and need something with a little more expand-ability. Apple has switched to ARM-like silicon, nVidia just bought ARM, RISC-V is getting bigger not to mention power workstations on the new OpenPOWER standard.
I feel theres more out there I am not finding and hoping someone here has knowledge with ARM development boards. Here are a few examples I could find of what I am looking for:
HoneyComb LX2K SynQuacer E-Series nVidia Xavier AGX & nVidia Jetson TX2 Kit Pine64 RockPRO64
Happy to answer questions and hope to find some resources. Thanks!!!

2020.10.24 15:10 TL_Tedi Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines

(1) In children who present as acutely unwell, we suggest implementing systematic screening for timely recognition of septic shock and other sepsisassociated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Remarks: systematic screening needs to be tailored to the type of patients, resources, and procedures within each institution. Evaluation for the efectiveness and sustainability of screening should be incorporated as part of this process
(2) We were unable to issue a recommendation about using blood lactate values to stratify children with suspected septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction into low-vs high-risk of having septic shock or sepsis
(3) We recommend implementing a protocol/guideline for management of children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (BPS)
(4) We recommend obtaining blood cultures before initiating antimicrobial therapy in situations where this does not substantially delay antimicrobial administration (BPS) Antimicrobial therapy
(5) In children with septic shock, we recommend starting antimicrobial therapy as soon as possible, within 1 h of recognition (strong recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(6) In children with sepsis-associated organ dysfunction but without shock, we suggest starting antimicrobial therapy as soon as possible after appropriate evaluation, within 3 h of recognition (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(7) We recommend empiric broad-spectrum therapy with one or more antimicrobials to cover all likely pathogens (BPS)
(8) Once the pathogen(s) and sensitivities are available, we recommend narrowing empiric antimicrobial therapy coverage (BPS)
(9) If no pathogen is identifed, we recommend narrowing or stopping empiric antimicrobial therapy according to clinical presentation, site of infection, host risk factors, and adequacy of clinical improvement in discussion with infectious disease and/or microbiological expert advice (BPS)
(10) In children without immune compromise and without high risk for multidrug-resistant pathogens, we suggest against the routine use of empiric multiple antimicrobials directed against the same pathogen for the purpose of synergy (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Remarks: in certain situations, such as confrmed or strongly suspected group B streptococcal sepsis, use of empiric multiple antimicrobials directed against the same pathogen for the purpose of synergy may be indicated
(11) In children with immune compromise and/or at high risk for multidrug-resistant pathogens, we suggest using empiric multi-drug therapy when septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction is present/suspected (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(12) We recommend using antimicrobial dosing strategies that have been optimized based on published pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic principles and with consideration of specifc drug properties (BPS)
(13) In children with septic shock or sepsis-associated organ dysfunction who are receiving antimicrobials, we recommend daily assessment (e.g., clinical, laboratory assessment) for de-escalation of antimicrobial therapy (BPS) Remarks: this assessment should include a review of the ongoing indication for empiric antimicrobial therapy after the frst 48 h that is guided by microbiologic results and in response to clinical improvement and/or evidence of infection resolution. This recommendation applies to patients being treated with empiric, targeted, and combination therapy
(14) We recommend determining the duration of antimicrobial therapy according to the site of infection, microbial etiology, response to treatment, and ability to achieve source control (BPS) Source control
(15) We recommend that emergent source control intervention be implemented as soon possible after a diagnosis of an infection amenable to a source control procedure is made (BPS). Population, Intervention, Control, and Outcomes (PICO) 12 Remarks: appropriate diagnostic testing to identify the site of infection and microbial etiology should be performed, and advice from specialist teams (e.g., infectious diseases, surgery) should be sought, as appropriate, in order to prioritize interventions needed to achieve source control
(16) We recommend removal of intravascular access devices that are confrmed to be the source of sepsis or septic shock after other vascular access has been established and depending on the pathogen and the risks/benefts of a surgical procedure (strong recommendation, low quality of evidence)

Fluid therapy
(17) In healthcare systems with availability of intensive care, we suggest administering up to 40–60 mL/kg in bolus fuid (10–20 mL/kg per bolus) over the frst hour, titrated to clinical markers of cardiac output and discontinued if signs of fuid overload develop, for the initial resuscitation of children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(18) In healthcare systems with no availability of intensive care and in the absence of hypotension, we recommend against bolus fuid administration while starting maintenance fuids (strong recommendation, high quality of evidence)
(19) In healthcare systems with no availability of intensive care, if hypotension is present, we suggest administering up to 40 mL/kg in bolus fuid (10–20 mL/kg per bolus) over the frst hour with titration to clinical markers of cardiac output and discontinued if signs of fuid overload develop (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Remarks: clinical markers of cardiac output may include heart rate, blood pressure, capillary refll time, level of consciousness, and urine output. In all settings, the need for fuid administration should be guided by frequent reassessment of clinical markers of cardiac output, serial blood lactate measurement, and advanced monitoring, when available. Signs of fuid overload that should limit further fuid bolus therapy may include clinical signs of pulmonary edema or new or worsening hepatomegaly S5 Table 1 (continued)
(20) We suggest using crystalloids, rather than albumin, for the initial resuscitation of children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, moderate quality of evidence) Remarks: although there is no diference in outcomes, this recommendation takes into consideration cost and other barriers of administering albumin compared with crystalloids
(21) We suggest using balanced/bufered crystalloids, rather than 0.9% saline, for the initial resuscitation of children with septic shock or other sepsisassociated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(22) We recommend against using starches in the acute resuscitation of children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (strong recommendation, moderate quality of evidence)
(23) We suggest against using gelatin in the resuscitation of children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Hemodynamic monitoring
(24) We were unable to issue a recommendation about whether to target MAP at the 5th or 50th percentile for age in children with septic shock and other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction
(25) We suggest not using bedside clinical signs in isolation to categorize septic shock in children as “warm” or “cold” (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(26) We suggest using advanced hemodynamic variables, when available, in addition to bedside clinical variables to guide the resuscitation of children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Remarks: advanced hemodynamic monitoring may include cardiac output/cardiac index, systemic vascular resistance, or central venous oxygen saturation
(27) We suggest using trends in blood lactate levels, in addition to clinical assessment, to guide resuscitation of children with septic shock and other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Remarks: in children with an elevated blood lactate, repeat testing that reveals a persistent elevation in blood lactate may indicate incomplete hemodynamic resuscitation and should prompt eforts, as needed, to further promote hemodynamic stability

Vasoactive medications
(28) We suggest using epinephrine, rather than dopamine, in children with septic shock (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(29) We suggest using norepinephrine, rather than dopamine, in children with septic shock (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(30) We were unable to issue a recommendation for a specifc frst-line vasoactive infusion for children with septic shock
(31) We were unable to issue a recommendation about initiating vasoactive agents through peripheral access in children with septic shock Remarks: it is reasonable to begin vasoactive infusions after 40–60 mL/kg of fuid resuscitation if the patient continues to have evidence of abnormal perfusion. Either epinephrine or norepinephrine may be administered through a peripheral vein (or intraosseous, if in place) if central venous access is not readily accessible. Dopamine may be substituted as the frst-line vasoactive infusion, administered either peripherally or centrally, if epinephrine or norepinephrine is not readily available
(32) We suggest either adding vasopressin or further titrating catecholamines in children with septic shock who require high-dose catecholamines (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Remarks: no consensus was achieved on the optimal threshold for initiating vasopressin. Therefore, this decision should be made according to individual clinician preference
(33) We were unable to issue a recommendation about adding an inodilator in children with septic shock and cardiac dysfunction despite other vasoactive agents

Ventilation
(34) We were unable to issue a recommendation about whether to intubate children with fuid-refractory, catecholamine-resistant septic shock
(35) We suggest not to use etomidate when intubating children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(36) We suggest a trial of noninvasive mechanical ventilation (over invasive mechanical ventilation) in children with sepsis-induced PARDS without a clear indication for intubation and who are responding to initial resuscitation (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Remarks: when noninvasive mechanical ventilation is initiated, clinicians should carefully and frequently re-evaluate the patient’s condition
(37) We suggest using high PEEP in children with sepsis-induced PARDS (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Remarks: the exact level of high PEEP has not been tested or determined in PARDS patients. Some RCTs and observational studies in PARDS have used and advocated for use of the ARDS-network PEEP to Fio2 grid though adverse hemodynamic efects of high PEEP may be more prominent in children with septic shock
(38) We cannot suggest for or against the use of recruitment maneuvers in children with sepsis-induced PARDS and refractory hypoxemia Remarks: if a recruitment maneuver is considered, the use of a stepwise, incremental and decremental PEEP titration maneuver is preferred over sustained infation techniques that have not been optimized through direct testing in PARDS patients. All PARDS patients must be carefully monitored for tolerance of the maneuver S6 Table 1 (continued)
(39) We suggest a trial of prone positioning in children with sepsis and severe PARDS (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Remarks: research trials in adults with ARDS and children with PARDS have emphasized prone positioning for at least 12 h per day, as tolerated
(40) We recommend against the routine use of iNO in all children with sepsis-induced PARDS (strong recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(41) We suggest using iNO as a rescue therapy in children with sepsis-induced PARDS and refractory hypoxemia after other oxygenation strategies have been optimized (weak recommendation, moderate quality of evidence)
(42) We were unable to issue a recommendation to use high-frequency oscillatory ventilation vs conventional ventilation in children with sepsisinduced

PARDS
(43) We suggest using neuromuscular blockade in children with sepsis and severe PARDS (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Remarks: the exact duration of neuromuscular blockade use in severe PARDS patients has not been determined to date. Most of the adult RCT data and pediatric observational data support treatment for 24–48 h after ARDS onset Corticosteroids
(44) We suggest against using IV hydrocortisone to treat children with septic shock if adequate fuid resuscitation and vasopressor therapy are able to restore hemodynamic stability (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(45) We suggest that either IV hydrocortisone or no hydrocortisone may be used if adequate fuid resuscitation and vasopressor therapy are not able to restore hemodynamic stability (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Endocrine and metabolic
(46) We recommend against insulin therapy to maintain glucose target at or below 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L) (strong recommendation, moderate quality of evidence)
(47) We were unable to issue a recommendation regarding what blood glucose range to target for children with septic shock and other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction
(48) We were unable to issue a recommendation as to whether to target normal blood calcium levels in children with septic shock or sepsis-associated organ dysfunction
(49) We suggest against the routine use of levothyroxine in children with septic shock and other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction in a sick euthyroid state (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(50) We suggest either antipyretic therapy or a permissive approach to fever in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, moderate quality of evidence)

Nutrition
(51) We were unable to issue a recommendation regarding early hypocaloric/trophic enteral feeding followed by slow increase to full enteral feeding vs early full enteral feeding in children with septic shock or sepsis-associated organ dysfunction without contraindications to enteral feeding (52) We suggest not withholding enteral feeding solely on the basis of vasoactive-inotropic medication administration (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Remarks: enteral feeding is not contraindicated in children with septic shock after adequate hemodynamic resuscitation who no longer require escalating doses of vasoactive agents or in whom weaning of vasoactive agents has started
(53) We suggest enteral nutrition as the preferred method of feeding and that parenteral nutrition may be withheld in the frst 7 days of PICU admission in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, moderate quality of evidence)
(54) We suggest against supplementation with specialized lipid emulsions in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(55) We suggest against the routine measurements of gastric residual volumes in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(56) We suggest administering enteral feeds through a gastric tube, rather than a post-pyloric feeding tube, to children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction who have no contraindications to enteral feeding (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(57) We suggest against the routine use of prokinetic agents for the treatment of feeding intolerance in children with septic shock or other sepsisassociated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(58) We suggest against the use of selenium in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(59) We suggest against the use of glutamine supplementation in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(60) We suggest against the use of arginine in the treatment of children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) S7 Confict of interest policy Confict-of-interest disclosures were sought from all panelists prior to commencing activities, with updates annually and as needed. There was no industry input into or support of the guideline development process. Only librarians and a supporting project manager received compensation for their work. Recommendations The consensus recommendations of the “Surviving Sepsis Campaign International Guidelines for the Management of Septic Shock and Sepsis-associated Organ Dysfunction in Children” are summarized in Table 1 of this executive summary. The rationale and evidence profles supporting each recommendations are presented in the complete guidelines [6]. The panel issued 77 statements on the management and resuscitation of Table 1 (continued)
(61) We suggest against using zinc supplementation in children with septic shock and other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(62) We suggest against the use of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in the treatment of children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(63) We suggest against the use of thiamine to treat children with sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(64) We suggest against the acute repletion of vitamin D defciency for treatment of septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Blood products
(65) We suggest against transfusion of RBCs if the blood hemoglobin concentration is ≥7 g/dL in hemodynamically stabilized children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Remarks: according to the 2018 Transfusion and Anemia Expertise Initiative guidelines, for the purposes of RBC transfusion, “hemodynamically stabilized” is defned as a MAP higher than 2 sds below normal for age and no increase in vasoactive medications for at least 2 h
(66) We cannot make a recommendation regarding hemoglobin transfusion thresholds for critically ill children with unstable septic shock
(67) We suggest against prophylactic platelet transfusion based solely on platelet levels in nonbleeding children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction and thrombocytopenia (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(68) We suggest against prophylactic plasma transfusion in nonbleeding children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction and coagulation abnormalities (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Remarks: prophylactic plasma transfusion refers to situations in which there is an abnormality in laboratory coagulation testing but no active bleeding Plasma exchange, renal replacement, and extracorporeal support
(69) We suggest against using plasma exchange in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction without TAMOF (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(70) We cannot suggest for or against the use of plasma exchange in children with septic shock or other-sepsis-associated organ dysfunction with TAMOF
(71) We suggest using renal replacement therapy to prevent or treat fuid overload in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction who are unresponsive to fuid restriction and diuretic therapy (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(72) We suggest against high-volume hemofltration over standard hemofltration in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction who are treated with renal replacement therapy (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)
(73) We suggest using venovenous ECMO in children with sepsis-induced PARDS and refractory hypoxia (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence)
(74) We suggest using venoarterial ECMO as a rescue therapy in children with septic shock only if refractory to all other treatments (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Immunoglobulins
(75) We suggest against the routine use of IVIG in children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence) Remarks: although routine use of IVIG is not recommended, select patients may beneft from such treatment

Prophylaxis
(76) We suggest against the routine use of stress ulcer prophylaxis in critically ill children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction, except for high-risk patients (weak recommendation, very low quality of evidence) Remarks: although “routine” stress ulcer prophylaxis is not recommended, some high-risk patients may beneft from stress ulcer prophylaxis. Studies have supported beneft of stress ulcer prophylaxis when baseline rate of clinically important bleeding is approximately 13%
(77) We suggest against routine deep vein thrombosis prophylaxis (mechanical or pharmacologic) in critically ill children with septic shock or other sepsis-associated organ dysfunction, but potential benefts may outweigh risks and costs in specifc populations (weak recommendation, low quality of evidence)

2020.10.20 16:59 ThatchedRoofCottage Plug-in not always triggering HomeKit (lutron Pico). Anything I can do to fix this?

Hi all,
I have a lutron pico remote exposed to HomeKit via the lutron-pico plugin. It is set up to control a Shelly 2.5 relay (flashed with HK firmware). I’ve noticed that sometimes when I press the pico, the switch responds right away, while other times there is significant delay or no response as all.
Looking at the homebridge UI, it seems that the pico is consistently “reaching” the server for lack of a better works (when I press up I get a log entry saying I pressed up, etc). But it doesn’t always trigger the light.
It does not appear to be the switch itself, as it responds near instantly when controlling via the home app.
For reference I’m running off of a raspberry pi 2, with the latest raspbian os. Homebridge and all iOS devices are up to date. Homekit hub is an iPad 11 pro that’s walkways at home.
Is there anything I can do to ensure that homebridge is more consistently triggering HomeKit?

2020.10.14 16:07 catsandprocesso How a 23-year old in Rochester, NY making $52,000 per year spends some of her money this week on Oreos (Money Diary)

Hello friends and welcome to my money diary (*in Safiya Nygaard voice*). I wasn’t expecting to be nervous to post this, but I am. I’m looking forward to any comments or constructive criticism y’all have! Also COVID disclaimer, I did see several friends in person this week. Nearly all of us work from home and the cases in my county are fairly low. This is a personal choice and I know I could do a better job of limiting my exposure, but I weigh the risk/pay-off of physically interacting with my friends and this diary reflects my level of comfort. I continue to monitor the cases in my area and will adjust my exposure accordingly.
Edited post to add my job, arguably one of the most important parts of the diary: I work in accounting and have my CPA
Trigger Warning: Mention of anxiety
Section 1, Assets and Debt:
401(K): $21,392. I have 20% of my paycheck going to my 401(K) ($480 every 2 weeks) and it is matched up to ½ of 6%. Hopefully within 10 years, my salary will increase enough to where the 20% will be enough to max out every year.
Roth IRA: Approximately $3,000. My dad typically gifts me $500 for my birthday and Christmas into my Roth IRA. Once I get my emergency account fully funded, I would like to max this out each year, but for now the money has been solely contributed by my dad.
Savings Account: Honestly, I have less than a few hundred dollars in my savings account. I used $4,000 this summer to get LASIK and that kind of drained this account. It is my main priority right now to get my Emergency Fund/Savings up to $15,000. I want to have my credit unit savings to be around $5K for easily accessible funds, then the remaining $10K in Ally online savings bank or CDs, depending on my timeline of major purchases.
Checking Account: $2,003. My paychecks go to this account, which is also used to pay all my bills. I will probably wait until this account gets up to $5,000, then start to transfer money into my savings.
Credit Card Debt: $0. I pay this off in full every month on auto-pay.
Student Loan Debt: $0. I am lucky and grateful that with a combination of scholarships and parents/grandparents financial support, I left college with no student loans. Scholarships covered approximately 30% of the costs and my family paid for the remainder of my 3 years in undergrad and 1 year in graduate school for my Masters.
Robinhood Investments: $3,185. I started this account a few months ago and invested around $1,700. It has almost doubled in value, but could obviously change at any time. I want to invest more, but know that my Emergency Fund is priority before this. However, if there is another stock crash, I will be buying all the stonks on sale.
Acorns Investments: $4,883. I started this account over a year ago and was investing $5/day as well as rounding up all my purchases. I recently put this on hold in order to save more liquid funds.
Other Investment Account: Approximately $15,000. I don’t typically count this money as my own because it is remaining money leftover from my college fund. It is in my name, but fully funded by my family. I meet with an investment advisor annually to choose how I want this invested. When the time comes for my wedding or a home purchase, I will use the funds in this account. I also used around $5,000 to purchase furniture with some of the money in this account a few years ago when I got my first apartment.
Equity: N/A for now, but I do plan to buy a home eventually.
Section Two, Income:
Income Progression: Nothing too exciting, I started this job almost two years ago at $48,000. I had one raise the first year of working. Typically, I would have an annual raise, but due to COVID there was no raise this year. I usually get a small bonus each year as well, around 3-5% I’m hoping for a more substantial raise next year when I am promoted.
Monthly Job Take-Home: $1,280 (after 401K, tax deductions) two times a month
Side Gig: I sell my clothes on Poshmark and make anywhere from $0 - $150 a month. I’m trying to slim down my closet because I only wear about 20% of my clothes regularly. I typically ‘re-invest’ my earnings back into clothing purchases on Poshmark. I also do paid research studies on Prolific, a British survey website. Over the past year, I’ve made around $500 from doing surveys during lunch breaks or while watching TV. I should cash out again soon because the exchange rate of British Pounds to USD is pretty good right now. I don’t have a ‘goal’ for this money, I just like seeing it accrue and the surveys are pretty interesting.
Section Three, Expenses:
Rent: $900. I live in a one-bed, one-bath with my cat. There is no pet rent fee here, bless up.
Wifi: $50. I have Greenlight, which works really well and is fairly reasonable.
Cell Phone: Work pays.
Gas/Electric: Usually around $50. This will likely be higher in the winter, but I’m unsure what it will cost because I haven’t lived here during the winter before.
Car Fees: I pay about $670 every 6 months for car insurance. My car is paid off and I plan to drive it for at least another 5 years (hopefully!). I have other expenses occasionally like oil changes and regular maintenance.
Health/Vision Insurance: On my parents until 26!
Dental Insurance: I have my own for dental and I believe it is $6/paycheck, deducted pre-tax?
Gym Membership: Pre-COVID, was spending $159 on a gym membership (ridiculous on my salary, I know). It’s suspended due to COVID and I am going to cancel once the freeze is over.
Pet Fees: I buy most of my cat’s necessities on Chewy which I 10/10 recommend. Having heavy boxes of litter delivered to my doorstep is better than carrying it from my car, although I do feel sorry for the delivery drivers. I spend about $35-50 a month on my cat, but I don’t include this as a monthly expense because it varies.
Spotify/Hulu Combo: $9.99/month
Netflix: Dad pays
Acorns Subscription: $1.00/month
Magazines: I randomly used airline points that were going to expire for a slew of magazine subscriptions like People and Shape. I feel bad about the waste of paper but I do enjoy reading them.
Section Four, Diary:
Day One, Tuesday:
7:45: My first alarm goes off and I press snooze. My cat jumps on the bed for snuggles and then reminds me that he is starving and needs to be fed immediately or he will die. I get up, feed him, start my Keurig, and turn on my work laptop. I also put in eye drops - I got Lasik this summer and still need to put in eyedrops a few times a day.
10: I’m not feeling too productive today - for some reason, if I have less work, I feel less inclined to do it. My friend tells me to read the MD Reddit post about 5-year plans and it gets me starting to think about my own. Career-wise, I want to reach manager level by then in my current company and likely starting to look for new jobs that will come with a pay boost. Money-wise, I want to have a solid savings account that will go towards a down payment on a house.
10:50: I finish my coffee, which is cold now, and eat several handfuls of veggie straws - they are so addicting and I probably shouldn't be sitting with the bag open next to me. I usually do intermittent fasting and eat starting around noon, but I didn’t have dinner last night so I’m starving. I get ready for a meeting I have at 11.
12: The meeting wrapped up a bit early and I reset my computer for some required update. I turn on YouTube and make Trader Joe’s beef and broccoli (the BEST) for lunch with some wild rice. It amazes me how the package says it makes 6 servings because I can usually only get 4 out of this bag. Alas, I add some crushed red pepper and eat with chopsticks. I also do some Prolific surveys during my lunch break - these are research study surveys run by a British website. It’s the only reliable survey website I’ve found and I’ve made about $400 within a year for doing short surveys randomly when watching TV.
2:00: I love having background noise on while I work, so I’ve been watching the newest season of Schitt’s Creek. I love this show and I’m so sad it’s the last season, but glad they aren’t dragging it out past it’s prime how some shows do (cough Grey’s Anatomy). I am not hungry, but craving chicken wings HARD. I have the ‘we have food at home’ conversation with myself and try to talk myself out of ordering them for dinner tonight...I tell myself if I don’t buy food out all week, I can buy myself wings on Sunday.
5:00: Wrap up work and plan to have a chill night at home. Usually about half my week is made up of days like this - no spending and not leaving my house. I’m an extroverted introvert though and 2 full days of no contact with anyone is about my max before I get antsy and need to have some social interaction other than my cat.
7:00: I move my car (I have street parking and have to move it daily) and also finish Schitt's Creek. I watch some YouTube and end up turning on a new Netflix show that is pretty good so far. I'm also not super hungry, but I make Lipton Cup of Noodle (honestly my favorite soup). I eat it with tortilla chips and some crushed red pepper. After dinner, I do two 10-minute Chloe Ting videos. I was really consistent with her workout challenges from May to August, but took a few days off which turned into a few months. I’m trying to get back into it, but need to increase my strength a bit before diving back into the full challenges.
8:00: The guy I’m seeing calls me and we talk for about an hour. We just recently started talking but we have already made it exclusive (not talking to anyone else). I’m not ready to call him my boyfriend...yet. I’ll refer to him as ‘N’ through the rest of the diary. We talk about our days, random stuff, and discuss when we will hang out next.
Total Daily Spend: $0.
Day Two, Wednesday:
7:00: Le chat wakes me up for breakfast. I always thought cats had a great internal clock, but my cat wakes me up at different times everyday. Sometimes 4 am, sometimes not until I wake up around 8:15. I feed him and go back to bed.
9:00: It’s a productive day already - getting shit done! I text some friends about our plans for the upcoming weekend and listen to the new Call her Daddy podcast episode. I still like the podcast, but do feel that it’s marketed towards college students and I might be a bit too ‘old’ to listen.
12:30: After I eat my beef and broccoli leftovers, I pack up my work stuff and my laundry and head to my parents house about 15 minutes away. I usually do this once a week to break up the monotony of working from home. My parents have an office that doesn't get used often, so I set up in there and work the rest of the afternoon. I also do my laundry because it’s free as opposed to paying for it where I live.
5:00: My dad gets home from work and I talk to him and my mom for a while. I actually brought dinner for us (a frozen TJ’s corn pie I bought last week and green beans). 9/10 would recommend this corn pie - I do wish it had a crust though, as it was a little soggy. Still delicious though. After dinner, I go to the post office to ship a sale I had on Poshmark.
7:00: I head back to my apartment, drop off my clean laundry, feed kitty, and then go to N’s house. He lives with his parents about 20 minutes away in the opposite direction of where my parents live. He also can’t drive currently because of a DWI (I know, I’m still dealing with how I feel about this). For now, I don’t mind driving to see him because he makes me laugh and we always have fun. We play a game of pool, watch a horror movie, and I end up spending the night.
Total Daily Spend: $0.
Day Three, Thursday:
7:00: My alarm goes off and I continue to snooze for the next hour or so while cuddling with N. I actually feel pretty well rested and it doesn’t hurt knowing that I don’t have a big workload today. The week has flown by, I can’t believe it’s already Thursday.
8:15: I leave his place and stop at a drive-through Starbucks on my way home. I usually get Starbucks once every two weeks or so and make my coffee at home the rest of the time. I can’t resist getting a slice of pumpkin bread with my iced caramel macchiato (with skim milk because #health). I don’t have enough funds on my account, so I add $15. $15.
8:45: My gas tank is about to hit empty, but I will deal with that later. Arrive home and feed kitty and apologize profusely for leaving him overnight. I know he is self-sufficient and I do spend pretty much all day everyday with him but still, I feel bad. I power on my work laptop and schedule a meeting with my manager to go over some questions I have this morning, then get into emails and other work things.
11:00: Like I said, my work is really light today. I end up doing some required trainings to get ahead and so that I feel like I’m doing something. I take full advantage during light weeks like this because during busy season(s), I am usually working upwards of 60 hours a week. My cat is in a feisty mood today, running around the apartment, meowing at the top of his lungs, and playing with his new cat tree I got on a Facebook Buy Nothing group page. I turn on his electronic cat toy (a little device that has a fake fox tail that moves around) and he goes nuts, he loves this toy. Sometimes I wonder if my cat wants another cat friend in the house...probably not.
12:00: I am actually a bit tired from sleeping at N’s place last night, so I decide to take a nap during my lunch hour. This is definitely a perk of WFH. I panic when I wake up before my hour-long alarm goes off because I thought I slept through it and it was actually 4 pm or something. Luckily, it was not. I get out of bed, heat up my leftover beef and broccoli (day 3 of this, one more day). I swear it tastes just as good as Chinese takeout. Back to work.
4:00: I meet with my manager and get a few additional tasks to work on today and tomorrow. I also call a local restaurant to make a reservation for our work team lunch next week. We have all been working from home since the middle of March and have no plans to go back until at least 2021. We’ve done one picnic this summer and we are going to have a team lunch next week as well.
5:30: Done with work for the day and I decide to go for a run. I run about 2.5 miles and walk a little in the middle of the run as a break. It’s the first chilly fall day, which is my favorite running weather. I’m trying to increase my mileage slowly, as I used to be a runner but ended up taking a several year hiatus… it’s a little depressing with my current cardio state but my favorite running quote is ‘no matter how slowly you go, you’re still lapping everyone on the couch’.
6:15: Home and I feed kitty dinner. I decide to go to Wegmans and get ingredients for the snacks I’m making to bring to my friend’s get-together tomorrow night (Oreo balls, spinach artichoke dip). I also get gas on the way there because like I said, I’m at E ($23.40). When at Wegmans (best place on Earth), I get Oreos, cream cheese, fancy sprinkles and melting chocolate, grenadine for drinks, pico de gallo, and a few other things. I also get toilet paper and razors for myself. Thank goodness they have toilet paper in stock because I have one roll left…($62.10).
7:30: Home and I take a hot shower, put away my groceries, play with kitty, and watch some Youtube before going to bed around 10:30.
Total Daily Spend: $85.50
Day Four, Friday:
8:30: I get out of bed, feed kitty (who slept in today), and turn on my Spotify Release Radar (one of my weekly pleasures). I end up jamming all morning to Machine Gun Kelly’s newest album. He’s the pop punk artist we didn’t know we needed in 2020. I start work and make myself a daily to-do list, which is arguably the only way I get things done.
10:00: Fridays are nice because I usually have no meetings. I end up taking a mid-morning break to make Oreo balls for my friends’ get-together tonight. I bought fancy sprinkles and I want these to look good. They’re one of the easiest desserts to make, but always a fan favorite.
12:00: During lunch, I make another snack to bring to my friend’s place tonight - spinach artichoke dip. This is another well-loved, easy recipe! I also eat the last of the TJ’s beef and broccoli. Cooking for one person is tough because I have leftovers for daysss.
4:00: My motivation for actually working right now is at an all-time low. I wash my dishes from the two recipes earlier.
6:15: I put on a full face of make-up (Bareminerals foundation, glossier cream blush, glossier concealer, Anastasia BH eyeshadow, Stila eyeliner, Too Faced mascara, and Clinique lipstick). Honestly sometimes I think I look better without makeup because I feel clown-like with a full face on. But maybe that’s because I’m so used to myself without makeup on.
6:45: I head out to pick up N. I’m so excited for him to meet my friends! We stop at a gas station on the way and he buys a case of beer.
7:30: N and I arrive at my friend’s house. There are about 8 of us hanging out tonight and we have the dip I made, Oreo balls, cheesecake, puff pasty with brie, and pizza bagels. One of the biggest perks of being an ‘adult’ is having snacks at parties! I made the decision prior to coming that I wouldn’t be drinking much (2 drinks max). I have anxiety, which at its worst manifests as agoraphobia, and it is heavily impacted by alcohol. I was never to the point of being unable to leave my home, but even tasks like going to the grocery store alone could trigger panic attacks. If I get really drunk, my mental health can be negatively impacted for over a week. I take a daily SNRI and am luckily in a good mental state right now, thanks to years of therapy and knowing my mental health strategies (exercising, not drinking excessively, keeping my apartment clean, having enough time alone to recharge).
9:30: We are all having a great time and my friends love N! Despite his history with the DWI and other ‘bad boy’ tendencies, he is fun to be around, genuine, and easy to talk to - and makes me happy. We play beer pong (with water), mingle, and eat all the snacks. One of my friends has a few too many dirty martinis and gets sick, which reinforces my decision to not get drunk.
11:30: Our friends start to head home and N and I stay to clean up and pack up my leftovers. I drive us back to my apartment and we attempt to stay awake to watch a movie, but both fall asleep on the couch. We relocate to my bed once we wake up at some point in the middle of the night.
Total Daily Spend: $0.
Day Five, Saturday:
7:00: N wakes up early to a call from his relatives about an issue at one of their businesses (I won’t go into this, as it could be revealing as to his identity). He Ubers home early to get back to his family and get ready for a family event he has later today.
11:00: Wow, I guess I really needed the sleep. I haven’t slept in for two weeks because I was on a hiking trip last week, so this was much needed and incredible. I get up, make coffee, and retreat to the couch. Even though I didn’t drink much last night, I feel exhausted. I probably got too much sleep.
2:00: I am enjoying having this relaxing day to myself. I heat up leftover spinach artichoke dip and have that for lunch with some chips. I also eat a piece of cheesecake that I took home with me last night. It’s so delicious.
5:00: I’ve been watching hours of 90-day fiance and Youtube. I put some simple make-up on though because I’m about to meet a girl from BumbleBFF. She’s not from the area, but seems really interesting and fun. I leave my apartment around 5:50 to meet her at a local brewery.
6:00: BumbleBFF arrives and we each get a drink (hard seltzer for her, beer for me). I also get a pizza because I didn’t have dinner before this ($21.06 for the pizza and one beer).. We end up having a good time talking about dating in this city, our families, future goals, and our college experiences. On the way out, I buy a t-shirt from the brewery with my favorite beer on it because I’ve been wanting this shirt for a long time ($15.60). I drive BumbleBFF home because she doesn’t have a car and lives super close to me, then I go back to my apartment. $36.66
9:00: Like I said, I think I got too much sleep last night, which is making me super tired. Don’t you hate how that happens? I snuggle and play with my cat and watch more TV. I should probably get more hobbies to do at home instead of spending all the time on my computer…
Total Daily Spend: $36.66
Day Six, Sunday:
7:00: Kitty wakes me up, I feed him and go back to bed.
10:00: Ah, a much more reasonable hour to get up on the weekends. I get out of bed and make my coffee. I should clean my apartment right now, but instead I lay on the couch and watch 90-day fiance. Why is this show so addicting?? I also heat up more spinach artichoke dip and eat that followed by another slice of cheesecake I took home from my friend’s place. Wow, I need more vegetables in my life...
12:00: I head to my parents house for a little while. I sold something else on Poshmark and need to print the shipping label, but I don’t have my own printer. On the way over, I stop at Walgreens to pick up my birth control (I get 3 months at a time, but it is fully covered by insurance) and I get a flu shot as well (also covered by insurance). Once I get to my parents house, my dad and I discuss our upcoming hiking trip next weekend and my mom shows me some new furniture she got for the house.
2:15: I leave my parents and head to the post office to drop off my sale. Then, I drive back to my apartment where three of my friends meet me. We go to a park in the city with plans to hike and explore an abandoned cave. My friend suggests we wear gloves and bring trash bags to collect bottles and other trash in the park. This is a great idea, as we end up filling up four bags on our hike. The park is also not in the best area and is a known location for druggies - we find two opened packages of Narcan, a few needles, and a ton of empty alcohol containers. Yikes. We did end up getting some great photos of the cave and waterfall.
4:00: Back to my apartment and two of the friends leave to go home. One of them stays and we end up grabbing sushi and a beer at an outdoor bar near my apartment. I pay for my own sushi and our beers. ($17.71 for the sushi and $10.33 for the two beers).
6:30: Home and I’m freezing...Realize my apartment is only 62 degrees. I turn on the heat up to 68 for the first time since spring! I’m interested to see what my electricity bill will be this coming winter. I moved in during April, so I haven’t experienced a winter here yet but it is an old apartment and I can definitely feel cold air coming through the windows a bit.
10:00: I get in bed with kitty, resolving to clean my apartment tomorrow after work.
Total Daily Spend: $28.04
Day Seven, Monday:
8:00: I wake up with my alarm and get up to feed kitty - he slept in today. I reluctantly get out of bed and make coffee.
9:00: I turn on my laptop a bit late today and also turn on the newest crime junkie episode to start the day. This is my all-time favorite podcast, I really should subscribe to their Patreon.
10:30: Just wrapped up one call and I have a few hours until my next. I revisit my to-do list for the day and assign things to be ‘before lunch’ or ‘after lunch’. I’m also pretty hungry but decide to follow through with my IF today and wait until lunchtime.
11:00: Screw it, I’m hungry. I heat up the last of my spinach artichoke dip and re-heat one slice of pizza from Saturday night. I swear I don’t usually eat as terribly as I have this week…
12:00: I have a $20-off voucher for REI, the outdoors store, for joining their member program a few weeks ago. It expires in a few days and it is ‘free money’, so I head there on my lunch break. $20 doesn’t go very far in a store like this, but I get a new pair of hiking socks and some protein and electrolyte snacks for my upcoming hike this weekend. Total cost is $33.54, but I get $20 off. $13.54.
4:00: I am really getting the afternoon sleepies. I would go for another cup of coffee, but I don’t want to be awake all night. I decide to go for a quick run because work is pretty light and I plan to make up the hours tonight while watching TV. I grab my headphones, turn on my ‘pop punk angst’ playlist, and head out. I end up just running a little over a mile because my body does not feel like moving and I don’t want to push it. I guess this could be attributable to how awful my diet has been this week. I walk another mile back home and get back to work.
5:30: One of my best friends comes over for a walk. This is something we do fairly often because we both love to walk and talk with each other. We end up stopping at a local coffee shop and I get hot chocolate and a brownie (might as well round out this poor eating week). I also buy my friend’s iced tea because she’s had a really rough week. I add a tip as well. We walk for a few miles and come back to my apartment. $9.99.
7:15: Once at my apartment, we purchase tickets to a haunted house we plan to go to in a few weeks. I was surprised the haunted house is happening with COVID, but they do seem to have many precautions in place (masks on everyone, temperature checks, limited number of tickets sold for each time slot). Each ticket costs $34.79 and I pay my friend with funds I have on my Venmo account. Once we buy the tickets, my friend heads home and I re-heat the leftover pizza from Saturday for dinner. $34.79.
10:00: Typical night doing work on my laptop while watching 90-day fiance on my other screen.
Total Daily Spend: $58.32
Total Spend:
Food & Drink: $144.59
Fun & Entertainment: $34.79 (haunted house ticket)
Home/Health: $0
Clothes & Beauty: $15.60 (for the brewery t-shirt).
Transport: $23.40.
Other: $9.99 (hiking snacks/socks)
Grand Total: $228.37
Reflection: I wish I could say this week of spending was unusual, but sadly it is pretty typical. My largest expenses are always food/drink and I'm trying to spend less (obviously not trying that hard though). My first goal, which I've been achieving, was to be honest with myself and track all my spending, even if it's over budget. Now that I've been tracking regularly, I need to be more aware of spending (mostly at Wegmans honestly...the prepared food/bakery gets me every time and that stuff adds up $$). I never spend more than what I earn, but I do want to start saving more. Anyways, I hope you enjoy and definitely let me know any thoughts you have :)

2020.10.13 19:06 ArrowDynamics2002 A Behemoth Sized TR: [Kings Island] 10 & 11 October, 2020

INTRODUCTION Early last week, I made plans to visit my home park, Kings Island on Saturday. However, plans got a bit crazy, and many dumb and crazy decisions were made much to the enjoyment of my followers on Snapchat. Some pictures can be seen above, so I hope you enjoy them. For reference, here is a link to my Top 50 roller coasters. Keep in mind I have only ridden 73 coasters, however, that number is steadily climbing.
Funding for this Trip Report is provided by my own sanity. Now, keep arms down, head back, hold on, and enjoy the ride!
DAY ONE: SATURDAY, 10 OCTOBER, 2020 We began the 40-minute drive to the park around 9:40 AM and arrived at the gates around 10:20 AM. The drive went by fast as usual, due to the fact that we were listening to Broadway the entire time. Hamilton, Falsettos, and Avenue Q were all sang horribly off-key. The park opened its gates at 10:30 AM, and instead of following the masses towards Orion, we went the opposite way towards Mystic Timbers. Faced with a surprising 5-minute wait, this time below up to 30 minutes for everyone due to the fact that someone in the front of the line needed EMS within 10 minutes of the park opening. After that small delay, we were in the station within 10 minutes, seated in the back row, quickly approaching the lift hill.
MYSTIC TIMBERS (Currently ranked 9/73): The drop on this ride is amazing, but easily one of the most forgettable moments of the ride, which is a great thing. After the swooping airtime hill over the lift, the airtime hills really began. Mystic Timbers always surprises me with every ride and has me laughing maniacally throughout the entire ride. The airtime is so strong that it manages to make my shirt into a crop top. A one-click ride (the minimum requirement) is a god-like experience, and I definitely recommend attempting this. My favorite GCI is also IMO the best GCI, save for maybe Python in Bamboo Forestor Wood Coaster.
After Mystic Timbers, we walked over to Orion, where we had a great experience, as there was a first-time rider in my group. The tallest coaster they had ever ridden was Diamondback, so they were quite nervous.
ORION (Currently ranked 5/73): The queue was filled up completely and spilling out into Area 72. Interestingly enough, the first part of the queue (down the stairs and up the ramp before the first cattle pen) took the longest time, at 30 minutes. As soon as we entered the cattle pen, the line started moving really fast. After a not so bad two hour wait, my friend and I were seated in the back row and were quickly ascending the 287-foot tall lift hill. The drop on this was insane, and I spent the entire ride watching my friend have pure joy on his face with his hands up from the top of the drop all the way to the brake run.
IN-DEPTH REVIEW: Personally, and controversially, I think Orion is the second best giga in the world, only behind Fury 325. Now, I have ridden every US giga, and was supposed to ride Leviathan this year, but we all know what happened. The drop is insane, and gives great airtime no matter where you sit. The “wave turn” is the only disappointing element on the ride, but you do get a nice floating sensation due to the banking of track. The turnaround gives a nice pop of air at the top, before a fun curving descent to ground level before my favorite moment of the ride: the Speed Hill. This hill gives amazing airtime, almost a Graceful Ejector like sensation, where you are gracefully ripped out of your seat, but you are going so fast that you slam into that lapbar. The trimmed hill is a disappointment, but it feels exactly like Diamondback’s trimmed hill. The helix is fun, if not overly intense, and the near miss between the drop and support is sadly quite forgettable. However, things ramp up with two finals great pops of airtime before hitting the brake run. The “Mini Hive Dive” is the most forceful airtime moment on the ride, and always is a surprise to me. The airtime hill into the brake run run also gives a nice pop, similar to Diamondback’s drop into the Splashdown finale. Overall, Orion is a great ride, and shouldn’t be hated on due to the fact that Kings Island didn't outdo Fury 325.
LUNCH: We decided to eat at Coney Bar-B-Que for lunch, and I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with Macaroni & Cheese. IMO, Coney Mall is the second best place to eat, only behind the Miami River Brewhouse. However, a damper was put on my meal, as the water at Coney had visible dirt particles in it, and tasted disgusting. Luckily, this was only at that restaurant, so for the rest of the day I only drank from a Freestyle Machine.
THE BAT (Currently ranked 29/73): The best Arrow currently at the park is one of my favorites. The Bat is easily the best suspended coaster in the US, due to its terrain usage and constant feeling of speed until the brake run. The swinging is insane, and headbanging is strangely absent. This is a back row ride, as like most Arrows, the drop is insane. The high swooping turn is the most dead part of the ride, but a curving drop leads into several high speed turns, and a forceful helix near Banshee’s second loop. The last two turns are taking quite fast, and the train slams to a stop and swings 2-3 more times even after coming to a complete halt.
After The Bat, we went to Starbucks where I ordered a Grande Vortex Frappuccino. It was very sweet, and one of my new favorite drinks, only behind the Orion Galaxy Smoothie. Proceeding to Subway and meeting up with a couple more friends, we created a group of 5.
BLUE RACER (Currently ranked 38/73): We waited about 25 minutes for this, however the line moved quickly due to two train operations on both sides. Red Racer has reopened, and is now known as “The Pelvic Presser” in our group. (For reference, click here). Unfortunately, the Red Racer did dispatch about 5 seconds early, so it was an uneven race. Blue Racer is running extremely well, and I recommend Row 11 on both sides, as it gives the whip and thrill of the back row, with the smoothness of the front row. This is what a classic wooden coaster feels like. There was airtime on the first drop, and the first bunny hill. Every other hill besides the former gave a floating sensation iny our stomach, but my butt never left the seat. Overall, that was the best ride I’ve ever gotten on The Racer.
ADVENTURE EXPRESS (Currently ranked 43/73): We ended up having about a 10 minute wait, where we got the back row. Unfortunately, our game that we play on ths Arrow mine train was ruined by landscaping cutting off the old leaves and branches from the tress you pass by. However, we still enjoyed a fun Arrow mine train that has a great layout that features a great night ride.
DINNER: After heading to the Wishbone Grill to see what Chef James Major was cooking up, we decided against it. The Chef Special was Cowboy Caviar, or Beef Testcles served in Pico de Gayo, with a side of Grilled Pork loin and Grilled Vegetables. So we went back to Coney Bar-B-Que, where we ate the Chef Special there, which was Cranberry Sausage. It was a really good cut, and I ended up only eating one of two they gave me.
RED RACER (Currently ranked 47/73): After dinner, we ended up going back to The Racer, where we had about a 10 minute wait. This time, we rode in the same rows, but switched sides. We were in the lead until the turnaround, where we were trimmed, allowing Blue Racer to beat us by an entire train length. The airtime was good, and the retracked portions of the ride were smooth. At this time, it was about 15 minutes until closing, so we went back to Area 72, and with about 10 minutes to spare, we got in line for Orion.
ORION (Currently ranked 5/73): Waiting about 90 minutes, we were the second-to last group in line, but when they weren’t looking, we jumped a switchback backwards to be the last group in line. (Funnily enough, this unnamed couple will appear at the end of tomorrow.) I was assigned to Row 7, where I had a solid 2 inches of room between myself and the lap bar. Afterward, we waited for our ride to show up, and we passed the time by walking around the park taking photos, and doing something known as dinosaur races. Hanging out in the parking lot, waiting for our ride to arrive, we left the park around 21:40
DAY TWO: SUNDAY, 11 OCTOBER, 2020
Arriving at my house close to 23:00 last night, I began to start my three-hour trek of Biology, Algebra II, Spanish II, and an English essay. Retiring to bed at the exact time of 02:30 AM, I got a grand total of five hours of glorious sleep before waking up at 07:30 AM to mow the grass. Unfortunately, after filling up the gas tank, and rolling it out there, the mower refused to start. I guess coffee didn't help it either. To add insult to injury, it started pouring, meaning that even now (Tuesday, 13 October) I still have only gotten about ⅓ of the yard complete. I spent my extra time lying in bed and watching two episodes of Lucifer on Netflix, which is a rather good show that I recommend to anyone in quarantine. Leaving my house at 09:40 once again, we arrived at the park 15 minutes early to find the gates already open, and the rides already running, which is something I love seeing.
MYSTIC TIMBERS (Currently ranked 9/73): To start the day off energized, we went to Mystic Timbers, which had a 10-minute wait. Assigned to the front row, I was off with a one-click ride. Mystic Timbers is truly a front row ride. The airtime is insane, coupled with the fact that you feel like you are the only one experiencing this, as the roar of the wooden track drowns out all the screams of the other passengers.
THE BEAST (Currently ranked 18/73): Straying from our planned itinerary, we followed the pawprints through Rivertown that led to The Beast. Walking right up to the station, I was given my desired back row ride. The Beast, in my opinion, is a back row ride if one wishes for the most intense experience possible. In all honesty, a back row night ride rivals the intensity of Intimidator 305 for me. The front row is amazing for the same reason as Mystic Timbers, but for me, Row 18 is the way to go on this masterpiece of a wooden coaster. The lift was taken at its comically slow pace, and the drop was delivered to us trimless. A furiously intense turnaround and a second drop delivered some unexpected airtime, before a lateral filled turn into the exposed brake shed, where we, unfortunately, slowed down. The train began picking up speed again, showing just how crazy the terrain on this coaster actually is. All the unbanked turns before the third (banked) drop delivered crazy laterals, and the banked drop was taken so fast it was over before I even realized we had done it. Hitting the second lift hill, we ascended to the top, and with my hands stretched up, we began our fourth (and final) banked drop, possibly the most famous part of this ride. The helix delivered the most insane laterals I have experienced (yes, over Intimidator 305and Maverick), as of now. After the insane double helix, we climbed back up into the final brake run, ending our nearly 5-minute romp through the woods. The Beast is one of my favorite coasters here and is a must-ride for every visit to the park.
WINDSEEKER: Waiting about 3 minutes, I was soon seated, kicking my shoes off, and ascending up to Giga coaster heights on this Mondial swing ride. It was fun, relaxing, and cold up there. Interestingly enough, there are still two track segments of the late Vortex sitting on its plot of land. I wonder if they’ll try to make us feel the opening date price once again if you know what I mean.
LUNCH: It was already lunchtime, so we went back to Coney-Bar B-Que for the third, and final time of this trip. Ordering the St. Louis style ribs, they were, unfortunately, mediocre at best, which was a let down for me. Not wanting to risk another experience with the water there, I decided on Powerade from the Freestyle Machine nearby.
ORION (Currently ranked 5/73): Waiting about 90 minutes, we had another first-time rider with us, who unfortunately decided it was a good idea to ignore the people she was in line with and watch TikTok. I don’t even know how one can be entertained for 90 minutes while watching TikTok. Going up the stairs into the station, we were assigned the front row and were soon dispatching. I was one train behind them, so watching her face while going through the nicknamed “Onion Ring” was hilarious. There was a mixture of pure joy and unadulterated terror on her face, reminding me just how much fun it is bringing a first-time rider to the park. Once again, the airtime was insane, and the speed hill was the highlight of the ride. My only complaint is that I wish they would bring back access passes, as when timed right you would be able to just walk right on the coaster. This particular ride marked my 25th ride on this brand new Giga coaster, meaning that this is the attraction I have ridden the most this year, followed by Banshee at just 13 rides.
FLIGHT OF FEAR (Currently ranked 31/73): Waiting one hour for this prototype launch coaster, we were assigned to the memeified Row 6 (courtesy of Taylor Bybee and rollercoasterjerk). The launch was thrilling, if not overly intense, showing that even the slowest accelerations can still be thrilling. The return of the on-ride camera at the end of the launch track is not a welcome addition in my book, as it blinds the riders and causing some eye pain. The cobra roll and sidewinder were forceful and fairly smooth. The ascending helix and banked turn into the midcourse were unfortunately rough, with the banked turn delivering several jarring lateral movements that shouldn’t be possible on a turn taken at or around 30mph. The midcourse break run brought us to a dead stop, and the curved drop and oscillating helix were fun. It is always a weird sensation to be hanging sideways while slowly speeding up. The quick transition from left to right was fun, if not as thrilling as the outdoor versions. The final low to the ground helix was thrilling, and the corkscrew always takes me by surprise. The final break run decides to try to kill everybody one last time, by taken you to a dead stop, slamming the back of your head into the headrest. My only complaint about the coaster are the trains. As with the majority of Premier coasters, contortion is required to be able to ride. Other than that, FOF is a great ride that provides a nice break from the hot temperature.
RED RACER (Currently ranked 47/73): Meeting up with one of the friends from yesterday, we attempted a rematch on The Racer. This time, we were dispatched evenly, but yet again, a nasty trim led us to lose the race. Better luck next time I guess.
XTREME SKYFLYER: Heading into Action Zone, we were greeted with a $5 dollar price for Xtreme Skyflyer, and while purchasing our tickets, we encountered a computer problem. Waiting for the supervisor to show up, a mother came up to me and gave me her ticket saying “My child chickened out and I don’t want to waste money. Have a free flight on me.” Taking one of my friends, we were soon suited up after buying another ticket for the rest of the group. Using my free ticket, My friend and I were being pulled up 168 feet in the air before falling face first and flying for a solid two minutes. A note to anyone flying on this: Make sure to be ready to grab the loop when they tell you. Even if you are flying backward, you must grab it. Lest the lone person who does grab it will receive a nasty surprise in some arm whiplash. Coming to a stop, I stayed on the platform for Round #2 with the rest of our group, the only difference being that it was my turn to pull the cord. Rising up once again, I soon was looking upside down and backward trying to find the cord. Pulling it, we soon were plummeting 150 feet once again and spreading our arms out to fly. Grabbing the loop once again, my final flight had come to an end. Overall, I definitely recommend this one, but only if it is priced at $5 dollars.
Taking a break at Starbucks, I ordered the Vortex Frappucino and ended up running into Wildcat Coasters. We chatted for a while and were laughing at how I had ended up winning two of her giveaways. A free pin with her logo on it was a nice touch to the conversation, and I really enjoyed talking with her. Grabbing our drinks, we sat down at a table and played several rounds of Among Us. Finishing our drinks, we headed back to Action Zone where we got on Banshee.
BANSHEE (Currently ranked 19/73): Faced with a 10-minute wait, we were given row 5, where we enjoyed an intense, and smooth ride on this crazy B&M Invert. Getting off, we went back in line and were assigned row 7 after just another 10-minute wait. Same experience as before, with an extra whip on the crazy twisted drop. Interestingly enough, if a member in your row is not wearing a mask during the on-ride photo, the park is cutting that half of the picture out and is selling the other half only. This is nice as it allows the photo to still be purchased even if a single rider tries to ruin it.
ADVENTURE EXPRESS (Currently ranked 43/73): Attempting to get in line for The Bat, we decided the wait was too long, so we abandoned that plan. Running to Adventure Express, we walked right on to the back row, where we came up with a new game. Facing backward on this coaster makes the ride so much more insane. This ride was actually scary. The turns slammed me into my partner, and it made the coaster so much more thrilling.
THE HOME ALONE EXPERIENCE: A truly stressful situation, we wanted to be the last ones in line for Diamondback. Being on the opposite side of the park, we ran over to Rivertown, and needed to get dinner. Unfortunately, our plan fell through as Tom+Chee was unfortunately closed. Going to The Potato Works near Mystic Timbers. We ordered and got our food in a record breaking 2 minutes. Running back to Diamondback, we had 30 seconds to spare before the line cut off. Waiting for the last train of the night, we were the second to last group in line, requiring the group in front of us to actually go in front, so we could be behind them. (Funnily enough, they were the same couple we got behind last night on Orion).
DIAMONDBACK (Currently ranked 11/73): Assigned to Row 10, the ride operators granted our requests for minimum checks. I had a solid 3 inches of room between myself and the lap bar. Cheering commenced as the ride began, and we slowly ascended the 230ft tall lift hill. Reaching the top, we plummeted down the steep drop with some amazing floater airtime before flying over two massive airtime hills delivering the same amount, if not more airtime than the first drop. The turnaround was fun, and delivered a slight breather before the worst part of the ride: The trimmed hill. This hill begins with a valley after the turnaround that causes some insane rattling and vibration, and this moment alone can give headaches after multiple rerides. Fortunately, the rest of the coaster is butter smooth. The hill gives mediocre airtime, easily the weakest amount of any moment on the ride. An upwards helix punctured by a blinding on-ride camera led into the mid-course break run, with a small pop going into, and coming out of that hill. Barely being trimmed, the coaster then goes over three more bunny hills before a helix near The Beast. A great pop of airtime similar to the one on Orion’s “mini hive dive” is delivered before the splashdown finale, and a final pop into the brake run. Overall, Diamondback is a great ride, and one of the few elite hypercoasters B&M has built. It is up there in the leagues of Mako, Shambhala, and Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia.
Diamondback was a great end to the night, and we again took a photo lap before hanging out near the Sweet Spot where we played Bean Boozled for a fat 20 minutes. Leaving the park after taking the classic photo in front of the Kings Island sign, we left the park before being picked up. I arrived at home to another large pile of homework and a nearly sleepless night. This was by far my favorite visits to the park, and I had loads of fun with all the new people I met. I will be visiting one final time on closing day, and attempt LROTSOO (Last Ride of the Season on Orion). Look forward to that TR sometime around early November.
Finally, for all those who read the entire TR, here is a small surprise.

2020.10.07 07:47 p0ppyhead Landlords died and his sons want us to move out

My parents have been living in a house for 26 years and their landlords recently died. Their lease did not have an expiration date per se, it just stated that both parties needed to give each other 3 months' notice of moving out. I would assume that since that paperwork was signed so long ago, they are now living month to month.
My parents were anxiously awaiting to see what was going to happen to the rental property. They received a letter from the landlords’ son stating that my parents must move out by December 31, 2020. They have been perfect tenants, paying rent and fixing the house without asking for maintenance from the original landlords. The son’s reasoning for asking my parents to vacate was that his brother is going to move into the house. There is rent control in my city and Assembly Bill No. 1482 is in place in Pico Rivera. I’ve tried to google resources and call housing rights organizations but it seems that I keep hitting walls when trying to find answers. We do not know how to go about this situation. They are trying to buy a house but it is hard as first time home buyers who are not very wealthy.
Any suggestions in regards to finding resources to help us navigate this situation would be greatly appreciated.
TL;DR Landlords died, new owners kicking us out, help

Release Link way at bottom of this Post!
10-06-2020
Today is your lucky day. I meant to post this on October 6th. But, I finished a little earlier, and didn't want to have you all waiting 2 more days! So, enjoy the Update, 2 days early, still dated for October 6th!!! Looking forward to the feedback!
First Off, let's get some HORROR 'Stravaganza 2020 Edition in:)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4FiuMzQdQw
Next Up
Staind Song, "It's Been Awhile", sums it up. But, here we are, again, almost 4 months later...with another truly kickass Update! There were quite a few variables in play, this time around, which made this particular Update take longer than the norm. These included real life reality and work debacles, meticulous testing phase scenarios to ensure what I wanted to pull off was feasible, with as little chance of buggery and such. You will see some of the things I have contended with, as you read the Release Notes! So, sit right back, and you will read a tale, a tale of a fateful modding trip...You get the idea:) Have fun with this Update, after you get through the Notes, whilst downloading it:)
I have been switching it up between Work, Modding, and trying to get in some fun "binge watching" of TV Shows, here and there. What shows have you ever "binge watched"? And, yeah, there is that joke about Netflix emailing people for watching too many episodes of Orange is the New Black and/or The Office, in a row:) In recent times, I did:
Ozark (truly looking forward to the next season..great crime drama about money laundering),
Lucky Pete (Bryan Cranston is a fun villain in season 1! Show is about someone who takes someone elses identity to escape his sordid past...not realizing the guy's life he took is potentially worse than his own!)
Anger Management Charlie Sheen in classic, crazy form:)
Greatest American Hero (Grew up on this show! Superhero loses instruction manual and learns as he goes, while crash landing in humorous ways, each and every time:)
I will probably do Ray Donovan next, as it is clearly a good show that I simply did not get into, as of yet! I'd absolutely love to know anything and everything any of you have binge watched!
Now then, you know the drill...Bullet Points, then clarity. Time to lift off and get into this Update!
Personal Appreciation for those who helped make 5000 Subscriber YouTube Milestone!
I am giving a tremendous personal thanks to all of you who have helped get me to the 5000 Subscriber YouTube Milestone. The combination of your pure, unadulterated awesomeness, Liking, Subscribing, Commenting, has gotten me to that fun junction in YouTube Time:) Thanks so much! And, I will be doing a 5K Celebration Video, wherein I take on a multitude of games with many many enemies, in fact...5K, give or take:)
TRUE Metal Gear 1 and 2 for MSX Controls Implemented! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Those who followed the Releases for awhile, will have known Turrican for C64 was the game that truly made me want to have keyboard to controller mapping, of which fr500 and r-type were both graciously amazing in helping out with! In any case, I set up controls (most optimal for PS2 style controllers!) so that you can easily play the TRUE Metal Gear 1 and 2 via MSX! You simply add the games, per normal, then run them, and go into RetroArch Settings, Quick Menu, Controls, Load the Mapper, BlueMSX, Kojima Metal Gear 1 & 2! I streamlined things, as best I could, such as putting the Item/Weapon Menus onto L1/R1, Codec on Select, Action/Start/Continue Buttons on A/B/X/Y. I can do same for any other MSX/DOS, etc, computer relative games that any of you have difficulty setting up or running, for that matter! Just let me know:) Enjoy! Legal BIOS will install automatically with Xtreme Injector for PSC. For the MD/SNES/NES Classics, go to Modules, KMFD Mod Hub, BIOS Tab, and install the appropriate BlueMSX Bios Module! Thanks Devarchivist for pushing me to get this done this time around:)
MAME 2003 Xtreme Virtua Fighter Arcade Support Added! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
It is no secret that 3d Arcade Fighting Games run like crap on pretty much all of the Minis, aside from Dreamcast/Naomi/Atomiswave interpretations! Virtua Fighter is one I really wanted added. And, it runs best with MAME 2003 Xtreme, especially on PSC! So, it is officially, the one and only 3D Fighting Game that runs well on the MAME Cores! Hopefully, we can get more added, in the future! Personal thanks to Arcadez2003 for helping with the nuances of clocking it, especially so, to handle the lower spec Mini Classics! You will see in my video, below the notes, the few builds I had to go through, just to get things right!
MAME 2003 Xtreme Hunting Games Support Added! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
American Sammy's fun Arcade Gun Games, such as:
Personal thanks to Arcadez2003 and Grant2258 for helping with this addition. I will likely finetune the precision of the controller, Next Update! But, this is an excellent start! You can see similar revisions if you try running Duck Hunt VS, which I made far easier to manage on a controller, in recent Updates! I will do same for these fun Hunting Games, where no real animals are injured or maimed or killed!
MAME 2003 Xtreme Golfing Games Support Added! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Incredible Technologies' fun Golfing Games, including:
Thanks for the assist Arcadez2003 and Grant2258, you both rock!
MAME 2003 Plus Midway Fixes (WWF Wrestlemania Arcade! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Personal thanks to Mahoneyt944 for helping make this incredible addition possible! WWF Wrestlemania Arcade now has proper, and nice, and loud sound!
MAME 2003 Plus Midway Fixes! (Terminator 2, Revolution X) (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Two of the most notoriously annoying Arcade Gun Games to get up and running, due to pesky controls and/or sound issues! No more! Thank you Mahoneyt944 for helping make this possible to now have Auto Calibrated Controls for both Terminator 2 and Revolution X, as well as Loud, Nice sound for Revolution X! MAME 2003 Xtreme Amped, in the Next Update, will reflect these amazing changes, too! That is currently WIP, as I didn't want to delay this Update any longer!
MAME 2003 Plus Food Fight Proper Controls! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Thanks to Mahoneyt944, you now have the ability to go into MAME Settings, and set appropriate "stop and turn on a dime" controls, to really have more finesse and finetuned precision in this highly addictive game. Be sure to check out the video below Release Notes for more details!
PSP Xtreme Amped! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
First we had PPSSPP Legacy, for stubborn games, then PPSSPP Xtreme, for a combination of stability and compatibility. Now, we have PPSSPP Xtreme Amped, which takes things to the next level! This cranks performance and speed to whole new levels and the NEXT Addition is one of the fruits of this labor! On MD/SNES/NES Classic, you can now finally and reasonably play Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins, as well as enjoy boosted Performance/Speed on a ton of games! One main caveat is that on the MD Mini, running games with PPSSPP Xtreme Amped from the Main UI can lead to a glitch where you are running the game and Main UI simultaneously! Check my YouTube Channel for a Video showcasing the workaround for this! PPSSPP Xtreme Amped for MD/SNES/NES will be in Mod Hub, KMFD Xtreme Tab, where other specialized, non-typical End User Stuff will be stored, moving forward!
The other thing to contend with is that games that have FMVs in them, such as God of War, may crash! You can workaround this, much like with Metroid Prime Hunters, where you utilize save points to bypass crash or non-passable points. In this case, run God of War Ghost of Sparta with PPSSPP Xtreme, get to the first save point, THEN reload same exact game with PPSSPP Xtreme Amped, and you will have a great while before having to worry about any FMV Crash Points! I played for a good couple hours swapping between the Xtreme and Amped, and thoroughly enjoyed some good ol God of War, pre Last of US rehash:) Not that that is a bad thing! I just enjoy the classic GOW, too:)
PSP Sonic Rivals 1 and 2 Finally Playable! (Mini PSC)
This is ONLY possible on PSC due to the Xtreme Timing Differentials to account for with these 2 very tricky games! They are now both quite playable! If you use my Xtreme Injector setup for PSC, you will be immediately in action for both of them, upon load! Results elsewhere may lead to crashes, freezes, burns, and whatnot! Remember, things are most finetuned to avoid crashes, with the Xtreme Injector setup. So, keep that in mind, and enjoy both of these fantastic PSP Games!
PSP Standalone! (Mini PSC)
We have had a great amount of Drama in the Scene. But, when it comes down to it, it is all about you, the End User, that matters most! Our groups have worked on our various projects, and conflicted, creatively, on occasion! But, I need not humble myself by saying thanks for your efforts with PPSSPP Standalone, Swing and Wraith. It is a true thanks! And, also thanks Genderbent for the critical Retroboot Installation Protocols which make APPs much more seamless in execution! In any case, I added my own personalized Xtreme Tweaks to help out a bit with some of the more Stubborn Games, such as Rock Band Unplugged! Be sure to watch the Rock Band Unplugged DLC Video Below Notes, as an example! Feel free to ask me for help, if you have any trouble getting DLC going on ANY game! I enjoy testing these fun things out, for sure!
Install, from my Release, in PSC Folder, AB, AutoBleem, then Xtreme Injector, then RB Apps, PPSSPP Standalone, then simply navigate to where your games are, and have fun running them! I got Sonic Rivals 1 and 2 running a tad better. Rock Band Unplugged considerably better. But, I definitely recommend most games be run via PPSSPP Xtreme or Amped, and the stubborn ones like Rock Band Unplugged via Standalone! Be sure to inform me of personal results of testing between these 3 incarnations of PPSSPP, so I can test, and confirm, and update things accordingly!
PicoDrive 32X Support Fixed! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Pesky Butterfly Mod Effect broke 32X Support in the last Update...All good now!
Genesis Plus GX MSU-MD CD Soundtrack Support! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
This is pretty tricky to set-up. I may have to do a Tutorial Video on overall setup and patching! But, the video below notes shows this awesome sauce in action, especially the amazing Michael Jackson's Moonwalker with Real Songs! I will do my best to make running these as easily as possible. These will ONLY work with Genesis Plus GX Plus, NOT Xtreme. Xtreme is set up in such a way that it favors Speed and Performance for games, such as Sonic Spinball, and is not meant for stuff like MD-CD! Some Sega-CD Games also benefit with Xtreme.
Commodore 64 Vic-20 Support Added! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
This was a tricky one. Now, both homebrew AND retail games mostly run, as well as MegaCarts (which can contain nearly the entirely library of any game you'd ever want to play Vic-20 wise! If I can legally post the MegaCarts, I will to Mod Hub! I will display them in a video, then post on Google Drive, temporarily, if need be...to avoid any unnecessary delays in bringing you more awesomeness to play on your Minis!
Thank you Sonninos and RSN8887! And, thanks robbalvey for helping test these additions for a few hours!
Commodore Amiga Revamped! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Amiga will continue to be Revamped, each and every Update. Performance and Speed is better, flickering fixed up, other fun tweaks and fixes, making it a better all around Core! Thank you Sonninos and RSN8887!
**Driver PSX No Longer Crashes on Restart! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
What is more irritating than the unpassable Tutorial Mission in Driver!? Well, that would be going to Restart, after failing, then having the entire game crash! No more, all good to go now, with ALL of the Updated PCSX Builds! You can also play the Japan Version, to entirely skip the Tutorial Mission, as a great bit of wisdom someone passed along to me in YouTube Comments! Just, after that, game won't be in English! But, still very damned cool! Thanks!
PSX Bugs Fixed! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Disk Swapping wasn't 100 percent reliable and crashed for some more often than not. Everything is fixed now, and I had multiple people test. Disk Swapping works flawlessly and quite effortlessly now! Also, if attempting to run games without BIOS, crashing was more prone to occur. Now, the games that DO work without BIOS, will run fine, without any surprise crashing on startup! Again, Butterfly Mod Effect, per usual. Gotta deal with a break, here and there, with the awesome new additions. But, once the occasional breaks, such as Disk Swapping crashes, or 32X no longer functioning properly, we quickly get off our asses and fix them, if we reasonably can:) Thanks saitax and stefantx and bslenul for testing and confirming the bugs no longer exist:)
PCSX ReArmed .ldci Support! (Mini MD-S-NESC)
Thanks bslenul! This is genius:) For PCSX, which is really cool for multi-discs games, now it will remember the last disc inserted so for example you're playing FFVII (from a m3u/pbp) and you're now on disc 2, next time you'll start the game it will boot on disc 2 directly, no need to swap and restart. This may make it hard code wise for PSC, too, upon more appropriate testing. But, works fine for MD/SNES/NES, for now!
PCSX ReArmed HD Xtreme Suite! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Here, we have a masochist's haven suite of specialized PCSX Core Builds, for you to peruse and try out and enjoy! For MD/SNES/NES Classics, go to Mod Hub, KMFD Xtreme Tab, like with PPSSPP Xtreme Amped...stuff that may not be for every End User, will be there for the elitists who wanna try out the extra oomph up for offer! You will have NEON, PEOPS, UNAI Xtreme, HD Xtreme, HD Xtreme Amped, HD Xtreme FS, HD Xtreme Amped FS. Amped Builds will ONLY work with Suspend or RetroArch Saves, NOT in game. That is a sacrifice that needed made to ensure better performance and speed! Graphical glitches may also occur. Think of the cache being overloaded. If you exit the game and reenter, or restart RetroArch, the game should run fine! I have to personally say, some of the "not too often" graphical glitches I got, were pretty funny. One had stormtroopers in Jedi Power Battles being covered up like a certain character that we need not name, that can't be shown, in South Park! Speaking of South Park, the Covid 19 episode was in top form, highly enjoyable:)
In any event, first try PS1 Games with the standard suite of Cores, then Xtreme, if need be. And, as far as HD Builds, FS has minor frame skipping involved, to help on games like R-Type Delta, which will run way way way better on MD/SNES/NES, with FS Builds! And, I tell you, R-Type Delta looks fine in HD! Feel free to offer feedback, as I have had absolute fun trying out hundreds of games on the various builds, and finding the appropriate and most masterful build for each. Again, for PSC, simply running HD Xtreme or HD Xtreme Amped will be all that is needed for MOST PS1 Games. FS is more practical, execution wise, for MD/SNES/NES. Have fun, I definitely did, getting these all set up for you to all enjoy! One can never have enough PS1:) PS: Blood Omen, like in my Video, runs absolutely amazing with HD Xtreme Amped! I just use RetroArch Saves for it, as I WANT that additional performance and speed, and accountability for HD Upscaled Visuals, to boot!
Boktai Light Sensor Support for mGBA! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
Who the friggin hey wants to take their GBA outside in the sun! Well, it was still a cool, not very well known gimmick, for this subset of Boktai, Action Adventure Games! Make sure your Core Option is set to 1 for Light, then calibrate, confirm, in game, and you should be able to simply hold L1 or R1 to adjust light up and down! You can also utilize the "hard perm patches" in my Release, in Xtras/PERM-CHEATS-PATCHING, to make sure it is enforced, always! Boktai 3, you will probably want to English Language patch, as well. I didn't include that patch, for now, as the best patch of it, includes something I cannot post:) I will try to throw into the Next Update, the most appropriate patch, along with any others I come across, that are impactful:)
RetroArch Xtreme Amped! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
For MD/SNES/NES, Mod Hub, KMFD RetroArch Tab for Ozone, the most User Friendly Build! KMFD Xtreme for my specialized for better performance/speed builds of Amped/RGUI (RGUI Loads games approximately 2-3 seconds faster than any other build. But, it is not the most pretty interface. It just doesn't need to load as much into memory, before running the games! For PSC, Xtreme Injector will get you up and running! For MD/SNES/NES, I have 181 and 190 Xtreme Amped. PSC, just 181 Xtreme Amped. I personally found 182-190 still have a few bugs to sort, that make me favor 181 for now on that platform. You are welcome to try 190 with Genderbent's awesome RetroBoot, however. But, til I am satisfied the bugs are sorted out, 181 is where I will stay, firm, for now...on PSC!
Additionally, those of you who play N64 the most, may best prefer 181, since you can directly go into RetroArch, Video Settings, SRGB Toggle On/Off on games like Killer Instinct/Paper Mario, to instantly kill slowdown, and reinstate full speed mode activate! Higher than 181, you have to go through 2 additional submenus, which can be a little more less endearing. Again, use whichever one you most prefer. I will get 190 or higher up, once I am comfortable enough with some of the bugs being gone! These same bugs don't necessarily affect other platforms, as MD/SNES/NES are absolutely fine! But, for the record, there were some bugs in 184, such as 50+ MB Memory Usage, which in some instances, affected certain games. That is completely resolved for the 181 and 190 I posted! It was due to a "RetroAchievements" bug.
RetroArch Xtreme Amped Sound Check Mode Activate! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
This is not as much about the music, as it is about memory usage! Whenever you enter RetroArch Menu, in ANY of my Amped Builds, cool, very kickass 1980s style music will play. If playing a more intensive game, such as Dreamcast, opening RetroArch Menu may cause this music to stutter or slow down. Anytime you stutter or slowdown, this signifies memory usage, sort of like CTRL+ALT+DEL on a Windows PC! Depending on where you are in a specific game, it will be best to resume that game to avoid crashing from it, due to too much memory usage, such as with Fist of the North Star...one of the most cpu intensive games, period! Or, just stop touching your controller for a second or few, til it cleans up! As long as the music stays smooth, you are generally in no immediately or imminent danger of crashing! I have found this one of the most practical solutions for surveying exactly how the memory is currently behaving! Even the built in Memory Usage Detector is quite erratic and unreliable, in contrast, due to how some Cores gather the data.
Xtreme Virtual Ram Updated! (Mini MD-S-NESC)
With this installed, you will now have incredible performance and better compatibility! Doom Sigil will load without crashing, Custom Arcade OSTs, such as NBA Jam and Street Fighter II will properly work. Naomi/Atomiswave will go from potential 2FPS slowdown, slideshows, to near seamless! I ran, even Fist of the North Star, quite nicely...on the lower spec MD Mini! You will have the double whammy of Zfast as well as Swap, along with Turbo Refinement, to help ease along the previous choke points in games for PSP, such as Burnout Legends, which run quite nicely with PPSSPP Xtreme Amped, now!
Other Additions! (Mini MD-S-NESC-PSC)
I made the Load Content more concise, so you don't have 100 characters listed at a time, when seeing what content or Core is loaded. This harkens back to my Prefix System which I showcased on NESC in 2017. IE: NES: Blaster Master, rather than Nintendo - Nintendo Entertainment System - Blaster Master, or Nintendo - Nintendo Entertainment System - Nestopia, now is Nintendo - NES - Nestopia! I really love this, as I don't want to sit there for 2-3 seconds on every Core, waiting for it to scroll by to see what the hell I am working with! This doesn't affect Ozone as much. But, with my preferred Amped XMB Builds, it is a little more confined for scrolling sections!
MD Mini 6 Button Controller Mostly Fixed Up! (Mini MD)
Thanks ReyVGM and bslenul for helping with this very frustrating addition. Many have encountered buttons being wonky or off by one! We did some extensive testing. And, with RetroArch Install from THIS Update, your MD 6 Button Controllers, should perform properly. Note: there are purportedly 4 different 6 Button Controller Types that came with the MD/Genesis Minis. We did the ones we had access to. If any of you have ones that still do not work, contact us, and we can help you with the appropriate process of generating a control scheme, which we can put into the install, so you and others can utilize it! Also, if running MD Games with Genesis Plus or Xtreme GX, you may sometimes need to go into RetroArch Settings, Quick Menu, Controls, and choose between 3/6 button there, depending on game. Variables. But, you get the idea! ' Next Update WIP (DraStic MD Mini Controls/MAME 2003 Xtreme Amped, etc)!
DraStic, currently, is quite limited in "what controllers" will auto work with it, for MD Mini! So, this is a top priority to get fixed up, right after this Update! They work absolutely fine for SNES/NES. But, a little additional work is needed to rectify things so they are more appropriately geared for the MD Mini. For now, you can access the DraStic Menu via holding reset on your MD Mini, for roughly 2 seconds. And, from there, if you have a working and supported controller, you should have no trouble navigating, and mapping, yourself. You can also use a keyboard, to make things fast and easy. And, TWO controllers can actually be used, one in each of the front controller ports, as well! Again, this is one of the top priorities to fix up, as soon as we reasonably can! Thanks for all the feedback and input!
I will have 2 MAME 2003 Xtreme Builds, Next Update. One will favor performance/speed, the other compatibility/stability. If I can get the better performance/speed on the latter build, I will relegate it to just one build. But, sometimes, it works best not trying to fix what isn't truly broken! SO far, in my personal testing, things are looking pretty tip top, as far as a nice Xtreme Amped Build. I just need to do more recoding, which I don't want to delay this Update, to do. But, I will certainly showcase this stuff. Stuff Like Virtua Fighter, etc, may run even better, too, once I am done!
I will get more Games onto the Mod Hub, including some very nice handheld games! I have wanted to do this for awhile. This will be the third priority for this followup Update, which won't be 3 months later, like this one was!
Refined Cheat Support for several Cores! I will showcase this in a few videos. Some of the most grueling and frustratingly difficult games, will be more approachable with easy access invincibility and/or infinite lives, etc, on the fly:) You will see:)
The Videos!
Be sure to go to my YouTube Channel, look at most recent, and go backwards, to cover pretty much everything shown in this Update! But, here are a few stand-out ones to check out, for now:)

Make sure your Core Option is set to 1 for Light, then calibrate, confirm, in game, and you should be able to simply hold L1 or R1 to adjust light up and down!
